Project:

Manav Ashrita Sansthan – Advocating the rights of tribal children

Key Issues:

 High drop out rate among girls due to inaccessibility of schools nearby.
 Due to frequent migration by families, prevalence of child labour, illiteracy and malnourishment high amongst children.
 Tribal communities exploited by denying their basic rights.

Project Achievements:

 Networked with government officials and opened 12 new schools
 Created awareness amongst parents on importance of education leading to re-enrollment and retention of girls in schools
 7 adolescent girl groups and 12 children’s groups formed to address issues like child marriage and education
 Gained equal access to healthcare and education rights through advocacy with local authorities

Project:

JANVANI – A happy childhood for children in urban slums

Key Issues:

 No schools in most of the slums
 Existing schools lacked basic amenities like toilets and drinking water
 Inadequate number of government health centres providing proper nutrition and primary care fro children
 Poor health and sanitation facilities leading to frequent sickness amongst children

Project Achievements:

 Community sensitised on various aspects of health and sanitation leading to improved health amongst 5,516 children
 Provided medical attention to 4,150 children by activating and strengthening Government health centers
 Advocated for better infrastructure facilities at school which ensured new schools were opened and drop-outs were re-enrolled.
 Activation of Government services by the community has ensured better living conditions

Project:

Kalapandhari Magas Vargiya and Adivasi Gramin Vikas Sanstha – Ensuring children’s rights through women’s empowerment

Key Issues:

 One of the most backward region in the state with high unemployment rate due to drought
 Unfavorable climatic conditions leads to frequent migration resulting in low enrollment and retention of children in schools
 To supplement to family incomes, children are forced to work as agricultural labour
 Non-functional government healthcare facilities for children

Project Achievements:

 Use of local folk songs (Kalapathak) to create awareness on child right issues leading to 100% enrolment in schools, 876 children retained and 100% new born children immunised
 Advocated to develop 20 model schools with improved infrastructural facilities like- like – school buildings, drinking water, playgrounds and supportive educational material.

 Balgats (pre-primary education centres) formed in all villages to give children a forum to voice their opinions on child rights issues

Project:

Society for Action in Disability and Health Awareness (SADHANA) – Improving the quality of life of children with disabilities

Key Issues:

 Lack of awareness within the community on government schemes for children with disabilities lead to denial of their basic rights to education and healthcare
 High malnutrition and child labour in children especially in children with disabilities
 Low enrollment of children with disabilities in schools.

Project Achievements:

 90 children with disabilities were assisted to get certificates so that they can access government schemes of education and healthcare.
 Conducted meetings with community, parents and teachers to sensitise them on issues of children with disabilities.
 Formed Children’s groups in 20 villages and mediums like wall paintings and writings were used for creating awareness on child rights
