Nandini experiences the joy of five

Nandini was one among the many malnourished children in the state of Andhra Pradesh, South India. Born into a poor family, her parents were unable to afford nutritious food or consult doctors who could help her. When Nandini was four-and-half years old, she weighed a mere 7.5 kilograms, instead of a healthy 16.8 kgs. While CRY-supported project Shramika Vikasa Kendram(SVK) conducted a scan for malnourished children in the region, Nandini was identified as a malnourished child.

The SVK team discussed Nandini’s case with the community members and anganwadi workers. The anganwadi required a doctor’s certificate and a higher official’s recommendation to provide extra rations for Nandini. The SVK team obtained the necessary documentation from the area’s Child Development Project Officer and provided it to the anganwadi.

Nandini immediately started receiving eggs on a daily basis, additional nutritious meals and supplements. The anganwadi worker also visited Nandini’s house and ensured that she was given multivitamin tonics.

Because of the timely intervention by CRY-supported project SVK, Nandini now weighs a much healthier 13.5 kilograms and is expected to reach normal weight very soon. Nandini is one among the many hundreds of children that SVK has helped to overcome malnutrition, so that they can live a normal healthy, happy life.

You can make change possible for many more children like Nandini. Help them reach their fifth birthday and experience the joy of five.
