27 years ago, CRY was born out of the belief that a life of dignity begins with a holistic, healthy, happy childhood.
Organisations and individuals partnering CRY have played an important role
in ensuring that this credo becomes a living reality instead of remaining a lofty ideal.
At CRY, events have been an avenue for people to be involved in CRY’s efforts. Not only do events
create awareness about child rights and CRY, they also help raise crucial resources that allow us to
continue with our work.
The 5Cs – short for The CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge – is exactly such an
event, started in 1999 as an initiative of the Friends of CRY group at Cadence Design Systems
(India) Pvt Ltd. The timing was right – the World Cup had just gotten over and (as we all know)
nothing excites and unites Indians the way cricket does. We decided to harness all this enthusiasm
for children. While Delhi had its share of corporate cricket tournaments, 5Cs was the first
tournament for a cause and this made it stand out. The first year, Cadence bore all the operational costs, so that the entire
proceeds could benefit CRY’s projects.
Since then, the 5Cs has gone from strength to strength:
