Home : 5Cs off the pitch

More than Rs.1 crore (Rs 10 million) has been raised so far, by the CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge. The funds have impacted the lives of over 11,000 children and their communities through CRY’s child development initiatives in Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttranchal.

In Delhi, the funds support CRY’s move for holistic care for mentally challenged children, which includes

  • Provision of Special Medical treatment
  • Assessment of IQ, to obtain a disability certificate to avail facilities and concessions
  • Therapeutic treatment, including speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and behaviour modification
  • Special schooling and vocational training so as to learn skills to earn a living
  • Community based rehabilitation, including a home based approach
  • Sensitization of all stakeholders, including parents, guardians, teachers, authorities and the community
  • Promotion of inclusive education programmes in the schools run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi

Key resource people from this initiative have been speakers at discussion forums on mental health organized by UNDP & Ministry of Urban Affairs & National Institute of Urban Affairs.

In Uttranchal, 5Cs resources support an innovative initiative, Experiments in Rural Advancement (ERA), which widens impact and reach at the field level. ERA implements CRY’s philosophy of empowering and building capacities of its partner NGOs.

ERA’s members have wide experience in development work, and bring to the table an in-depth understanding of issues related to children and the problems of a specific geographic area. By acting as CRY’s nodal agency, ERA ensures cost effective deployment of resources for development, monitoring and evaluation. ERA focuses on strengthening the community to ensure:

  • Children’s education
  • Children’s health
  • Eradication of Child Labour
  • Community Empowerment

In Rajasthan, 5Cs resources aim to empower the deprived, exploited dalit community economically, politically and socially. Essentially the developmental activities revolve around:

  • Forming strong community based organisations capable of confronting exploitation and oppression in all its forms
  • Forming children's groups to ensure that children have a voice in matters affecting their lives
  • Using the community based organisations to monitor famine relief activities with a view to finding long term solutions to the recurring problem of drought in the region
  • Promoting the integrated development of children and women with a view to improve their survival, status and quality of life
  • Planning and implementing programs to liaison with government and non government agencies for development of the region
