Mountain Children's Foundation (MCF)

Nature of Initiative: Implementing

Location: 16 villages in Vikas Nagar block of Dehradun district.

Project Holder: Ms. Aditi P. Kaur

Objectives: To make children and communities aware about Child Rights. To form strong groups of children. To sensitize parents on providing children to express their thoughts. To empower local communities for identfying and solving their problems.

Reference Group: Children of marginalized communities.

Situation: The intervention villages in Dehradun are highly prone to natural disasters like landslides, forest fires, earthquakes and flash floods. The predominant issues in the intervention villages are low birth registration, increasing incidence of female feoticide and lack of immunisation coverage. Infant mortality and maternal mortality rates are still high. Marginal communities lack access to education and health care. Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Board are not functional in the area.

Project brief: The organisation has experience of working on child participation across the State. It has been successful in building capacities of partner organisations and children collectives in rural areas to play a meaningful role in the development process. To highlight some of the programs planned by MCF in its first year are : base line survey in all villages to analyse the status of children, formation of children's collectives and ensure their participation in community activities, creation of a manual on child participation.
