WHAT CHANGED

Disha Vihar was registered in 2003 to work towards the upliftment of the backward, exploited and Dalit communities and to bring them in the mainstream of the socio-political processes to build a just society. With support from CRY Disha Vihar covers 55 villages of 5 blocks in two districts, Munger & Lakhisarai in Bihar. Disha Vihar has closely worked with the people in Diara land who were displaced by the Ganga flood and the Fishing community in Munger district. The organization has taken up women rights issues and local governance issues in the operational area. With regards to communal harmony and campaigns for social cohesiveness they organize various cultural programs and also participate in the Manav Jodo Abhiyan. The cultural education center called Jeevan Shala is one of the most successful initiative of Disha Vihar for taking up the issues of children who are dropouts, never gone to school, working children and child labour and their mainstreaming in formal schools. Disha Vihar is continuously engaged with different government departments and media personnel on the issues of children in the area and infrastructural issues related to them.
