- Petitions were handed over to the Panchayat by the parents demanding for proper sanitation facilities in the villages and toilet facilities in the Anganwadis
- 193 ANC mothers were enrolled in the scheme and 166 of them received Maternity benefits
- An enrollment drive was organized in all 67 hamlets to emphasise on the importance of education and enrolling children in schools
Human Rights Education and Protection Council – KALAM, is working in 67 hamlets of 51 dalit villages in Thirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu. The organization aims at responding to oppression and discrimination of the children of dalits. It is engaged in developing and providing legal training to community based cadres and also providing legal aid to the victims in cases of caste violence and discrimination. It works closely with various networks in the state. KALAM network has concentrated its focus on monitoring of schools in the Tirunelveli corporation area whereas in the rural area it has focused its attention on enrollments, retention and monitoring of school functioning. Over the years HREPC has consolidated its position to locate and address some of the critical child rights issues in the region.
