WHAT CHANGED

Almora and Binsar, located in the forest areas of Uttarakhand, come under wildlife sanctuaries. There is always a threat of wild animals. There is lack of proper infrastructure like roads and electricity. Services of Anganwadi Centres and Primary Health Centres are erratic. Panchayat committees are unaware of the benefits and entitlements under NREGA scheme.

Families migrate to other cities in search of livelihood and quality education for their children. Girl children are mostly involved in household chores and are deprived of a normal childhood. None of the children have birth certificates.

People’s rights and child rights in particular are being strengthened, on issues of land, water and forests

Lok Prabandh Vikas Sansthan (LPVS) is working towards building a conducive and sustainable environment for the poor in the region. It has been able to mobilise the communities on child rights issues. The organisation plans to generate awareness on birth registration and complete immunisation of children and pregnant women.

In addition, LPVS will focus on – base line data on status of children with respect to education, health and nutrition in all the villages. They also plans to activate government health centres and primary schools. It has formed panchayat committees for implementation of NREGA and other social security schemes.
