Mitwa Mahila Kalyan evam Seva Samiti (MMKSS) was formed in 2004 by a group of women earlier engaged in a self help group working in the tribal villages of Chhattisgarh. Since inception the organization is working in a focused manner for the development of women and children in the urban areas of Bilaspur especially amongst the migrated and beggar communities in the 8 slums of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. The focus has been on education, health, child participation and women empowerment. MMKSS has been working in Bilaspur Municipal Corporation for Satnami, Gond, Telugu, Manikpuri, Rawat, Dewar and Kori communities, which are backward and involved in begging, selling parts of dead animals, daily wages, rag picking and other odd jobs. Children are mainly engaged in rag picking and begging.The project is aimed to sensitize the slum dwellers and ensure basic rights for the survival and development of children through community empoerment and participation of women.
MMKS has child-focused interventions, aimed to sensitise the slum dwellers and ensure basic rights to survival and development children in urban slums.
