CHANGE ENABLED
  • 691 children were enrolled in Anganwadis through the enrollment campaign across operational villages; household visits also led to the formation of the Child Development Committee in 38 villages
  • The team ensured safe and timely transportation of children through bus connectivity for access to Middle and Higher secondary schools
  • Through the enrollment drive organized in all 52 villages about 2100 children were enrolled in primary schools
  • Advocacy with the government officials resulted in sanctioning of a compound wall in one school and toilet  facilities in 4 schools
WHAT CHANGED

RWDS’s operational villages comes under Kadaladi, Thiruppulani and Mandapam blocks where Palmyra workers are thickly populated in 52 villages covering 30 Panchayats of 3 blocks, Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. CRY started supporting RWDS since 2008. The overall goal of RWDS is to organize Palmyra workers and facilitate them to campaign for asserting their rights to livelihood. They also work to ensure education and health facilities for Palmyra workers’ children in their hamlets and ensure control over common property resources. RWDS started addressing child rights issues in 90 villages through strong community mobilization. It has strengthened Palmyra workers sangam. RWDS’s program intervention is focused on child labour linked to Education and Health through a process of community empowerment and mobilization which will eventually support in advocacy focused issues of Tamil Nadu on the whole.
