It took off with a bunch of enthusiastic people of Dakshinpuri determined to bring about positive change in the lives of children in the locality. Home makers, college students and social workers started visitng schools, talking to teachers, parents and the school authorities. Their mission is to ensure that every child in the area gets quality education.

Volunteer Delhi

The group demands that:

  • The overall quality of education improves in the MCD Schools and in particular the schools have adequate number of teachers and security staff.
  • The Anganwadi in the area plays a far bigger role than just distributing meals now and then. The condition of these anganwadi improves so that the children can spend time and improve their cognitive skills.
  • The residents take the responsibility for the situation and work towards ensuring quality of services in MCD School and Anganwadi.

Achievements

CRY Volunteers interact with students to gauge quality aspects (teaching and learning, mid day meals, timely provision of uniforms books etc.). They regularly meet and hold workshops with teachers and school authorities formally to get to know their issues and forming teachers forum. They work in partnership with the Education Department to lobby for change by periodic monitoring of the school, sharing of survey findings.

Their relentless efforts have ensured that MCD School number 1 of Dakshinpuri in Delhi which earlier had no Security guard now has a guard and an attendant for the school.

Intervention by CRY volunteers saw to it that 5 permanent teachers go recruited that marked a positive change to end the lop sided student teacher ratio.
