DEEP Project from CRY to Protect the Poorest of the Poor

  • 456 irregular children were sent back to schools and made regular
  • Capacity building of 10 newly formed School Education Committees – ensuring regular Mid-Day Meals & attendance of children in schools
  • Active engagement of government school teachers along with PRI members in the events organized by children
  • 50 birth registrations provided
  • School Development Plans have been initiated at 5 schools

DEEP registered under the Society Registration Act, with an objective of mobilizing the marginalized communities towards an issue based movement for their rights with education as an entry point in 24 villages in Ramnagar Block of West Champaran district in Bihar. The main activities of the organization are centered on the formation of an organization of Tharus and capacitating them. Other activities include – vocational training for women, running NFE centres, interventions on education, awareness camps, legal aid, to organize dharna, cycle yatra, processions, media and legislative advocacy, etc. The organization is also working as the “Regional Resource Center (RRC), and conducting a PANCHAYET HELP LINE. With immense efforts of DEEP, positive changes are seen in the lives of children and the community. Its credibility, transparent and democratic processes are also areas of strength for the partnership with CRY. Its focus is to work towards making the school health and ICDS systems functional with support from the community, community based organizations to prevent child labour, and create an intensive school system to promote a learning and conducive enviroment for all round development.
