Mrs. Leelavathi, Addressing the Child Discrimination

  • 140 adolescent girls counselled, 26 pregnant women and 37 lactating mothers got supplementary nutrition and medical counselling
  • 60 children were re-enrolled in schools. 7 of these children have been admitted in the residential Adi Dravidar school in Dindugal
  • 4 children have been prevented from trafficking.
  • No child marriage took place in all the 30 villages

Mrs. Leelavathi and Mr. Nagapandiyan hail from tribal community and advocate issues addressing the discrimination faced by children of tribal communities. The areas of intervention include 30 tribal villages of Kodaikanal Taluk, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu. Both of them have a strong ideological synergy. Through this Fellowship the CRY team is trying to facilitate the intervention process at two neglected and isolated tribal communities- Pazhiyars and Puzhiyars. Leelavathi is focusing on mobilizing Pazhiyar community and Nagapandiyan plays significant role in mobilizing the Puzhiyar community. They have made a tremendous effort in terms of strengthening their mobilization base at 30 villages and having a strong base at 25 villages. Through active cum proactive cadres they were able to strengthen the community mobilization at all the villages and concentrate on Child Rights violations.
