  • Escalated advocacy against the move to reduce age of the child to 16 years in the context of the JJ Act and lobbied with different stakeholders on the same
  • Followed up on recommendations of the ADW (Adi- Dravidar Welfare) study and assessed response of the state as well as implementated the promises made to strengthen the schools
  • Strengthened advocacy action on the core issues of education in ADW schools
  • Continued advocacy on aspects of RCFCE Act, to bring out voices from the districts and build a campaign around it

CRY partners of Tamil Nadu have formed a state level entity as TAFRE-Tamil Nadu Alliance for Fundamental Right to Education. TAFRE has undertaken several interventions and brought about outcomes towards the direction of passing the bill on Right to Education in the parliament. The name of the alliance was subsequently changed to Tamil Nadu Samakalvi Iyakkam (TNSKVI) in the year 2011. The alliance has supported in mobilizing critical public opinion in the formative stage of NAFRE; conducted a Cycle Yatra from Chennai to New Delhi covering 10 States in 1999 and met the Prime Minister for a signature campaign on the Right to Fundamental Education. TNSKVI has initiated work on the issue of Child Marriage with focus on the western districts and brought the issue to the forefront with a State Level Round Table on Child Marriage in 2014. It has continuously worked with the government departments, legislature and bureaucracy to advocate for policy changes.
