Why Contribute To CRY’s Academic Support Centres?

Though schools have resumed, many children still struggle with their studies. The prolonged closure of schools for over 700 days resulted in missed learning opportunities and slowed skill development. Despite efforts to continue education online, many children had to drop out putting them at the risk of child labour and marriage. A world bank report shows, the learning poverty in India increased from 54% to 70% due to the pandemic. If not addressed on time this learning crisis can lead to children dropping out of school permanently putting their bright futures at stake.

To address this issue, CRY has set up Academic Support Centres that are –

• Helping children across many states reconnect to their studies
• Giving them the confidence to go back to school
• Strategizing a long-term intervention focusing on supporting children to continue their education

What are these Centres helping children with?

• A fun and safe space to play and learn
• A place to reconnect with education, with the necessary confidence
• Qualified teachers with training to use digital tablets & tablets up-loaded with appropriate resources
• Life skill sessions for overall, physical and mental well-being of children
• Online safety education sessions and counselling on careers/skills
• Trauma counselling and focused psychosocial care
• Sports, Theater & Art based activities
• Household/family interactions to encourage and raise awareness of the importance of education
• Parents group sessions to build knowledge of varied issues related to children
• Opportunities for older children to emerge as Key Influencers/Role models
• Awareness programs on the importance of education, and the ill effects of child marriage, child labour, & trafficking
