Only 3 out of 5 girls in India are enrolled in higher secondary education
(Source: GER, UDISE 2021-22). Despite the Right to Education Act 2009 promising free and compulsory education for children up to age 14, many girls still can’t reach higher secondary school. Societal norms, child marriage, and inadequate school infrastructure are significant barriers preventing girls from completing their education. These challenges lead to girls dropping out of school, discontinuing their education, and often marrying early. This not only halts their learning but also prevents them from reaching their full potential.

Why Educating Girls Matters

A study by McKinsey on Gender Parity found that if all girls complete their education and participate in the workforce, India could add a whopping $770 billion to the country’s GDP by 2025.
