The Girl Child in India She has only half as good a chance as her brothers at good healthcare, at enrolling in school, at not dropping out by Class 5. She is as interested in sports as the boys, she likes her dolls but is not beholden to become a mother and wife. In fact she wants to spend her childhood like any other child – well-cared for, fed, educated, protected, and heard. She will figure out who or what she wants to be and does not need to be pushed into marriage or any role society sees fit for her. She will choose for herself, all she needs is an enabling environment.
The doll She is a girl, she is Indian. She symbolises CRY’s fight for the rights of children.
These dolls are made by a lady who works with slum dwelling women, in Deonar, Mumbai. She teaches the women sewing, and then gives them orders, so giving them a means to livelihood.
The dolls are available as a collector's item at CRY World in a set of three. Get yours now!
Eliminate Discrimination, not the girl child.
Thank you for signing the Girl Child Rights charter. We now have over 6000 signatures from across India and the world through efforts of people who have signed, forwarded to their friends, organized support drives and more. We are in the process of submitting the same to different decision makers in India. Please return in a few days for an update.
