28 years ago an NGO named CRY came to life out of a strong desire to ensure India's children a childhood and to bring about permanent change through collective action. 5 years ago this effort took on a new spin in the form of the CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge- 5Cs as it is nicknamed. 5Cs is a CRY and Cadence initiative that truly challenges corporate India " one where you stretch your efforts on the best cricket fields while contributing to CRY's mission. To empower people to ensure every child the right to a good home, nutritious food, quality education. Year 2006 will set new milestones for both CRY and Cadence. This summer the 5Cs will cross the Indian border starting its UK chapter, with 16 teams gearing up for the challenge. 2006 also saw the successful close of the 6th CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge. The 6th 5Cs was inaugurated in Delhi by Mr. Mike Fister, Cadence CEO, Ms. Ingrid Srinath, CRY CEO and the chief guest Mr. Chetan Chauhan. In Bangalore, noted cricket personality Mr. David Johnson, and personalities like Ms. Anu Prabhakar and Ms. Rani Jeyaraj were present. The Chandigarh leg of the tournament was inaugurated by senior BCCI functionary Mr. I S Bindra. Ms. Ingrid Srinath, Chief Executive, CRY believes the commitment of Cadence and the corporate fraternity, is largely responsible for the success of the 5Cs. She says, "The partnership with Cadence is invaluable to CRY because it goes well beyond conventional corporate sponsorship of charitable events. The team at Cadence brings incredible levels of personal commitment and passion to every stage of conceptualising, planning and executing the event year after year." Cadence CEO, Mike Fister, says "the 5Cs has grown and become a valued initiative of Cadence. We experience great satisfaction in our partnership with CRY and its commitment towards India's children." Since its inception, the 5Cs has raised over Rs.1.40 crore, crossing many boundaries " from 12 teams in 1st year to over 60 teams this year, from Delhi to Chandigarh, Bangalore, and now the UK, from impacting 400 children to over 3500 children this year. This overwhelming success is a result of the loyal commitment of the corporate fraternity, the media and individuals from all walks of life. In Delhi The participants included ABC, Airtel, Abhishek Auto, Amex , Atrenta, Birla Soft, Cadence, Canon, Citifinancials, DSCL, Ericsson, Fidelity, Free Scale, Flextronics, GECIS, Genpact, HT, HCL, Hutch, IBM, KPMG, Maruti, Mentor, Nestle, Nortel, Perot System, Polyplex, Pepsi, Ranbaxy, Reliance, Span, Tricolite, Veesolv. The 6th 5Cs included a Special Match in Delhi where Buddies XI, Scribes XI and Illustrious XI, comprising boardroom executives, media professionals and members of parliament, made every action on the pitch count. Genpact won the final match. The tournament was formally closed by Ms. Jaya Sharma, captain of India's international women's cricket team. In Chandigarh The teams that took part in the tournament in Chandigarh were Sigma, HFCL Chandigarh (HFCL Infotel Ltd), Quark Media House (I) Pvt Ltd, Bharti Mobile Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, Infosys Technologies Ltd, Tata Teleservices, Spice Telecom. Sigma took home the trophy in this leg of the tournament. In Bangalore 20 teams participated including Accenture, ANZ IT, AXA, HP, HSBC, Hutch, IBM, Madura Garments, Philips, Praxair, Reliance InfoComm, RMZ, SAP, TNT, Worldspace, Yantra, GMR Foundation, McAfee, Ogilvy & Mather and Cadence. In an exciting final HSBC beat HP by two wickets. Ms. Nisha Millet, international swimmer; Mr. Sadanand Vishwanath former cricketer and Mr. AV Jayaprakash, former Ranji Player in Bangalore were present at the close of this year's tournament in Bangalore.
