Who we are |
CRY, Child Rights and You UK, is a non-profit organisation that works towards restoring rights to underprivileged children, especially Indian.
CRY UK works to ensure that all children get the four basic rights defined in 1989 by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child*, i.e.,
|
|
 |
|
|
| |
- the right to survival, life, health, nutrition, name and nationality
- the right to development, education, care, leisure, recreation
- the right to protection from exploitation, abuse, neglect
- the right to participation, expression, information, thought and religion
CRY UK's activities encompass all categories of underprivileged children - street children, girl children, children bonded in labour, children of commercial sex workers, physically and mentally challenged children and children in juvenile institutions.
*an international human rights treaty to which 191 countries, including India, are signatories

Mission Statement
To enable people to take responsibility for the situation of the deprived child, especially Indian, and so motivate them to confront the situation through collective action thereby giving the child and themselves an opportunity to realise their full potential.
|
|
|
What we do |
Very simply, we act as the link between (a) people like you who want to help underprivileged children and (b) underprivileged children and communities, wherever they might be, in India or the UK.
We believe that underprivileged children do not exist in isolation. To be able to bring about long-term, lasting change to the lives of children one needs to address the root causes of illiteracy, poverty, discrimination and exploitation faced by the community within which the child exists.
|
And so, we act as enablers, channelising the concern, goodwill, time, money and skills of thousands of individuals towards grassroots-level child development initiatives run by committed individuals and organisations. We select these initiatives on the basis of their track record, the issues they address and the impact they have on the communities they work with. We support them in various ways through funding, training, networking with similar organisations, and advocacy. Our intervention gives donors the reassurance that their contributions are deployed towards addressing the root causes of poverty, exploitation and discrimination, creating sustainable social change.
We work closely with CRY, Child Rights and You, a premier child rights organisation in India, that has, over the past 25 years, developed highly effective systems for selecting, planning, monitoring and evaluating such interventions. These systems have earned CRY the trust of donors worldwide.
Like CRY, CRY UK also operates with impeccable standards of trust, transparency, equality and accountability. We report periodically to all our supporters, on the progress of each of the initiatives we support.
Currently, we support 2 projects in India. Soon we intend to start funding UK-based projects too.

Ritu Arora - "The key reason why only 'CRY' becoz of 2 reasons - firstly it supports children and I adore kids. The thought that just a little effort from my side can make a difference to even one little angel, itself is very motivating. Secondly, I fully buy into CRY's ideology that each & every individual can make a difference and no contribution is small. I strongly believe that this can be the key driver for bringing a sustainable change".
Mudit R. - "I have known of 'Child Rights and You' as a long standing Indian organisation working for social change where it is most required and least available. I believe that CRY has the intent, the processes, and the people to professionally deploy resources and make a real difference to Indian children. This is neither a simple nor a short-term job, and CRY continues to prove itself, earn respect, and change lives. This is why I volunteer in a small way to help CRY raise funds. Not only has this provided the satisfaction of being able to contribute to a significant cause, it has continued to be a lot of fun with many more like minded professionals. The learning, the fun gatherings and cool events surely beat the joys of apathy or armchair criticism! I hope to get a step closer to real social change with CRY".
Rohit Nath - “It has been 3 years now since I have been involved with CRY here in UK. During this time we as volunteers within CRY have organized a number of events to generate funds towards the projects in India. What started off as intent to make a small difference quickly translated into an endeavor to see how best we can make a difference for the CRY group and their projects sitting here in UK.
The experience has been nothing short of satisfying to be part of a group which wants to make a contribution however small it maybe. Hopefully with the thought that this small contribution quickly grows to larger contributions not only in terms of donations but also in terms of a larger volunteer group”.

“E2E InfoTech was founded by first generation entrepreneurs who believed in giving back to the society at large and to do whatever is possible to make the world a better place. Children have always been at the heart of the next generation and we owe a debt to the children to give them the right environment to grow and prosper. However hard one tries, it is not always possible to reach out to people in need and to do something about it. CRY provides that medium to E2E InfoTech to fulfill our desire. CRY has been standing up for children’s Rights and E2E is proud to be associated with CRY. Every one at E2E appreciates the hard work CRY is doing in its field and we would remain committed to supporting CRY in the UK for its initiatives”.
- Vaibhav Shukla, Founder and CEO, E2E InfoTech
“HDFC has always been keen to support NGOs who are genuine and dedicated towards making a difference to the society, and CRY is one such organization. In India, we have supported several of their projects and they have been successful in touching the lives of the lesser-privileged children. We were happy to know that CRY is also active in UK and they have been organizing activities for the Indian community based in London.
It has been a year since we have opened our office in London and since then we have associated with two of CRY's projects. What is commendable is that, besides generating funds for a good cause, these events also provided an avenue for the Indian community to get-together, network and connect with the Indian culture. We wish the team the very best and hope to see many more such wonderful initiatives from their end”. - Mrs. Renu Sud Karnad, Jt. Managing Director - HDFC Ltd.
