The project works for the rights of children engaged in the beedi industry in 3 wards of Dhulian Municipality in the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal. They have been able to gain the trust of the community and have built good rapport with the local administration as well. The focus is on people’s campaigns (for labour cards, labour entitlement, health and education) and mobilizing people for their entitlements. Within a span of nine years Marfat has been able to mobilise the community to demand for immunization of children, registration of birth of children above one year and was able to advocate with the health department & sub divisional officer on these aspects.
