The prolonged closure of schools for almost two years has robbed millions of children of the opportunity to learn and develop many important life skills. Especially underprivileged children were deprived of necessary education, undoing much of the progress made in recent decades. This disruption took a toll on their mental health and trapped them in a cycle of abuse and exploitation. As per a recent World Bank study, learning poverty in India is expected to increase from 50% to 70% due to learning loss and more out-of-school children.
After a long gap, schools are Open for children with formal and structured learning but the coming years will be crucial for them. It is important to focus on providing the necessary support so that the children do not fall behind in their learning and drop out of school permanently.
